Desert Labrador Retriever Rescue
A Phoenix-based Rescue Group
Dedicated to finding loving, life-long homes for displaced Labrador Retrievers.
|
| DLRR is an all-volunteer, Federal
501(c)(3) non-profit rescue organization for Labrador Retrievers in Phoenix and most areas of Arizona. In addition to rescue, our volunteers provide medical care and/or rehabilitation for these dogs and then attempt to match them with appropriate, permanent homes. Through public education, we strive to help eliminate pet overpopulation by encouraging the spaying/neutering of pets.

Special Puppy Seeking a Special Home!
|
|
Five month old Josie is a special puppy looking for a home! She has been diagnosed with a life-threatening, congenital heart condition that
will shorten her life considerably. According to the cardiac specialist, the median life
expectancy of a dog Josie's size with this condition is 3-4 years, although he said she could die
anywhere between now and when she is 8 years old. The vet also said there is no reason to limit
her activity since doing so will reduce her happiness and not add much time to her life. The vet
said to treat her as a normal dog, and to let her play however she wants. DLRR wants to ensure
that Josie has a life full of love and adventure. Her heart condition cannot be treated, so this is
not an expensive chronic illness. You don't need to have a lot of money to "afford" Josie - she
just needs someone with lots of love to give to open their heart and their home to her.
Although Josie's heart may be medically "broken" she has a tremendous amount of love
to share and is eager to please her humans. Josie needs and deserves a loving home with
someone who is able to be her teacher and to share with her the joys that life has to offer - for
however much time she has left.
To find out more about adopting Josie, please contact our lab line at (480) 899-LABS.
If you can't adopt this special puppy, please consider donating to DLRR to help find her a forever home!

4th Annual Donation Drive! (Click here for more information!) DLRR's 4th Annual 2012 Donations Drive is officially underway! |
Since our inception in 2000, DLRR has saved 2,585 Labs in need! In 2011, DLRR rescued, rehabilitated and rehomed 224 Labs into loving new families. Because Arizona's animal shelters are severely overcrowded, DLRR is often the last chance a Lab may have. Any treatable illness or injury and of course, space issues, force kill shelters to put even friendly Labs on the euthanasia list.
The majority of our Labs are from Arizona county pounds and shelters. We also take owner turn-ins when we can and there is no shortage of Labs that need our help due to the economic hardships that many of their owners continue to face.
During our 2011 Donations Drive, we had an ambitious goal of $50,000 and with your help, we were able to raise over $55,000 which is amazing and we truly appreciate your help exceeding our goal! In 2012, we hope that you will be able to help us meet or exceed our $50,000 goal again.
Last year, DLRR's veterinary costs exceeded $165,000. We expect to at least meet or exceed that figure in 2012 as we have already spent over $25,000 in medical expenses for just January and February!

Fosters Needed! |
DLRR is in desperate need of fosters! Every dog that we take in needs a foster home to give it loving care while it is waiting to go to its new forever home. Foster homes are the cornerstone of our organization. All you need to be a foster home is an appropriate place to keep a dog, time to spend with your foster dog, and a heart big enough to love a dog that is in the midst of a big transition. Many of our dogs need training and extra care while in foster care, but in addition to knowing that you are helping to save a dog, you will be repaid in the unbounded love of a Lab.
Please CLICK HERE to fill out an application to become a foster family. |
